CATA to Host Job Fair for Bus Drivers, Mechanics
Look to the road for your dream career. The Capital Area Transportation Authority is hosting a job fair, Thursday, Sept. 5, 2024, in search of bus drivers and mechanics. On-site interviews will be conducted throughout the day.
CATA service changes effective Aug. 19
As summer break draws to a close, the Capital Area Transportation Authority (CATA) is preparing to implement service changes to its fixed-route service. The changes, effective Monday, Aug. 19, 2024, impact ten routes as outlined below. Spartan Service will also resume on all Michigan State University campus services and select off-campus routes.

Tri-county transits give voters free rides to early voting and polling sites for state primary election
To eliminate transportation barriers for voters, the region’s three transit agencies – CATA, EATRAN and Clinton Transit – will provide systemwide free rides to early voting locations July 27 – Aug. 4 and to polling sites on Tuesday, Aug. 6, the day of the state primary election. There will be no in-person voting Monday, Aug. 5. Simply inform your driver you are going to vote to ride for free — no ID required.
CATA shuttles to the Ingham County Fair
CATA, in partnership with Ingham County, will provide transportation to the Ingham County Fair, Monday, July 29, to Saturday, Aug. 3.
CATA provides limited Independence Day service
Limited holiday service will be offered Thursday, July 4, while all other CATA operations — regularly scheduled fixed routes, Spec-Tran, Rural Service, Connector, Redi-Ride and Shopping Bus — close for the day.
Transit to Trails Survey
The Capital Area Transportation Authority is applying for the Michigan Shared Streets and Spaces grant program with their Transit to Trails proposal, aimed at improving bus stops at a few locations that intersect with the Lansing River Trail. These stops will provide enhanced amenities such as ample concrete pads, shelters, benches, trash bins, bike repair stations … and potentially more! We are engaging members of the public to give us feedback on this project by taking a short, three-question survey. Let your voice be heard!
U.S. Rep. Elissa Slotkin awards CATA $1M for zero-emission bus
‘Electrify CATA for a Greener Greater Lansing’ aligns with board’s commitment to achieve 100% zero-emission fleet by 2035
U.S. Rep. Elissa Slotkin announced today a $1 million funding award to the Capital Area Transportation Authority.
CATA applied for $1,040,000 through the FY25 Community Project Funding, and seeks to purchase one 40-foot zero-emission battery-electric expansion bus, for a total cost of $1.3 million. Funds will allow CATA to work toward the replacement of diesel and gasoline buses, and provide cleaner transportation to the community.
CATA to close for Memorial Day 2024
In observance of Memorial Day, the Capital Area Transportation Authority will be closed Monday, May 27. Specifically, CATA’s Fixed-Route, Spec-Tran, Connector, Redi-Ride, Rural Service and Shopping Bus services will not operate.

CATA launches "The Arts Shuttle" for East Lansing events on May 18-19
CATA is providing shuttle service for the East Lansing Art Festival and MSU Arts & Crafts Show on May 18-19, 2024. Park for free at MSU's Commuter Lot 89 and ride CATA to both events. Round-trip fare is 50 cents on any of The Arts Shuttle buses. Children under 42 inches ride free with an adult.
CATA extends weekly open interviews through June
The Capital Area Transportation Authority will continue to host open interviews for bus drivers every Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., through June 26. Interviews will be held at CATA’s Administrative Offices, 4615 Tranter Street, in South Lansing. Free parking is available.
New drivers will earn $17.50 per hour during training and $24.93 per hour upon the completion of probation. Additional wage increases are earned after six months.
