CATA Public Meeting Notice: 2025 Listening Bus Sessions
The Capital Area Transportation Authority announces its 2025 Listening Bus sessions hosted on CATA’s fixed-route buses. The program allows riders to conveniently share constructive feedback about their experiences with CATA’s fixed-route service as they travel to and from their destinations. CATA representatives will board buses to interact with customers and document their feedback.
CATA provides limited Christmas Day service
Limited holiday service will be offered on Christmas Day, Wednesday, Dec. 25, while all other CATA operations – Fixed-Route, Spec-Tran, Rural Service, Connector, Redi-Ride, Shopping Bus and CATA Rydz – close for the day.
Advance reservations are required for those in need of transportation on Dec. 25. Curb-to-curb service will be available to the general public from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on a limited basis and will be restricted to the Spec-Tran service boundaries. CATA shares in the traditions of the holiday season
The Capital Area Transportation Authority kicks off its holiday campaign, "Celebrate the Traditions of the Season" this week offering riders a chance to enjoy a free ride in recognition of the winter holidays.
It has been a longstanding tradition of the transit agency to celebrate with the community through engaging ridership campaigns. This year’s "Traditions of the Season" campaign recognizes the diverse ways community members observe the holidays, highlighting unique traditions across the region—from family gatherings to cultural observances.
CATA’s regular service to close for Thanksgiving Day
The Capital Area Transportation Authority will close its regular service on Thursday, Nov. 28, in observance of Thanksgiving Day. CATA’s Fixed Route, Spec-Tran, Rural Service, Connector, Redi-Ride, Lot Link, Night Owl, Shopping Bus and CATA Rydz will not operate. Limited holiday service will operate 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. for customers who have pre-reserved trips.
All non-campus CATA routes and services will end at their regularly scheduled time on Wednesday, Nov. 27. MSU late-evening campus service on Routes 30, 31, 39 and Lot Link will conclude at 11:30 p.m.

Capital Area Transportation Authority introduces mobile ticketing
The Capital Area Transportation Authority introduces CATA Mobile Pay, a new app with mobile ticketing integration in the Transit app. This feature offers a simple, cashless way to pay for bus fares from a smartphone, improving convenience and efficiency for public transit riders.
Capital Area Transportation Authority receives $1.7 million grant
The Capital Area Transportation Authority was awarded a $1.687 million Mobility Challenge grant today, through the Michigan Department of Transportation’s $15M Equitable Mobility Challenge Solving Mobility Gaps program. Funds will be used to provide microtransit service for third-shift workers in the Greater Lansing region.
CATA hosts weekly open interviews through October
The Capital Area Transportation Authority will continue to host open interviews for bus drivers through Oct. 30. Sessions are held every Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at CATA’s Administrative Offices, 4615 Tranter Street, in South Lansing. Free parking is available.
New drivers earn $17.50 per hour during training and $24.93 per hour upon the completion of probation. Additional wage increases are earned after six months.
