CATA announces summer service changes effective May 5
The Capital Area Transportation Authority will implement service changes during Michigan State University’s summer break. The changes will be effective Monday, May 5, through Sunday, Aug. 17.
Spartan Service operating on MSU’s campus will change as follows:
CATA's regular services will not operate Easter Sunday
In observance of the Easter holiday on April 20, the Capital Area Transportation Authority will not operate regular Sunday services — Fixed-Route, Spec-Tran, Lot Link, Night Owl and CATA Rydz. Limited holiday service will be available from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. for customers with pre-reserved trips.

CATA launches Safe Place® during National Safe Place Week
The Capital Area Transportation Authority is now licensed through National Safe Place Network to operate Safe Place®, a national outreach and prevention program for vulnerable youth. With this designation, CATA’s vehicles and facilities will serve as safe places for individuals under the age of 18 who are experiencing crisis.
CATA hosts weekly recruitment sessions for drivers and mechanics
Look to the road for your dream career — behind the wheel or behind the scenes. The Capital Area Transportation Authority is hosting a series of open interview sessions in search of bus drivers and mechanics. Weekly on-site interviews begin Wednesday, March 5.
No experience is necessary for bus driver applicants as CATA offers paid training. Drivers will receive a significant wage increase after 90 working days. Mechanic First Class will receive a $7,500 signing bonus and must meet specific qualifications as outlined in the job description.

CATA advises riders to prepare for possible snow route detours
In the event of heavy snow or ice due to winter storm conditions this afternoon through Thursday, the Capital Area Transportation Authority will implement snow route detours as needed.
Detours are announced as Rider Alerts which are published on CATA’s website and sent to Rider Alert subscribers. Snow detours are activated on a route-by-route basis, and detours may change as conditions improve.
CATA’s microtransit service launches next phase
CATA Rydz has been bridging mobility gaps for transit-dependent riders since November when the newly-developed app-based service rolled out its initial phase. With the official launch on Jan. 27, two new enhancements will be introduced — the integration with Transit app and a monthlong free-ride promotion.
CATA job fair highlights careers in public transit
Look to the road for your dream career — behind the wheel or behind the scenes. The Capital Area Transportation Authority is hosting a winter job fair, Thursday, Jan. 16, in search of bus drivers and mechanics. On-site interviews will be conducted throughout the day.
Listening Bus resonates with CATA riders
The Capital Area Transportation Authority has provided riders with the ideal venue for sharing feedback since the introduction of the Listening Bus program in 2023. Monthly sessions allow riders to share constructive feedback about their experiences with CATA services while commuting.
The initiative is set to return for its third year in 2025, beginning Tuesday, Jan. 21 aboard select fixed-route buses staffed with CATA representatives. The Listening Bus schedule is available at the Listening Bus webpage.
