The Capital Area Transportation Authority (CATA) unveiled its first full-size, electric bus on Nov. 20, 2025 with a ribbon cutting ceremony that marks a major milestone in the Authority’s transition to net-zero carbon emissions by 2035. The new bus, designed and manufactured in the USA by Gillig, will enter service later this year. The bus unveiling reflects both years of strategic preparation and strong local, state and federal partnerships. 

To eliminate transportation barriers and ensure voter access, the tri-county region’s three transit agencies – CATA, EATRAN and Clinton Transit – are offering systemwide free rides for the May 5 special election.  

In observance of the Easter holiday on April 5, the Capital Area Transportation Authority (CATA) will not operate regular Sunday services — Fixed-Route, Spec-Tran, Lot Link, Night Owl and CATA Rydz. Limited holiday service will be available from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. for customers with pre-reserved trips.

The Capital Area Transportation Authority (CATA) will provide limited holiday service on Easter Sunday, April 5, while all other services — Fixed-Route, Spec-Tran, Lot Link, Night Owl and CATA Rydz — will not operate.

Curb-to-curb service within the Spec-Tran service boundaries will be available to the general public from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. CATA will attempt to accommodate all ride requests. To view the service area map, visit the Holidays webpage.

The Capital Area Transportation Authority (CATA) will implement service changes during Michigan State University’s spring break. The changes will be effective Monday, March 2, through Sunday, March 8.

When winter weather hits, safety is our top priority. Snow, ice and poor road conditions can affect where and how CATA buses travel. That’s why we sometimes implement snow route detours — temporary changes to routes designed to keep riders and drivers safe during severe weather.

What are snow detours?

CATA is continuing to provide free transportation and warming services as part of the City of Lansing’s Code Blue cold weather emergency plan, which is activated during periods of extreme winter weather.

Under Code Blue, CATA is helping transport individuals in need to warming centers and shelters at no cost. Several services are currently available to support residents during the cold snap.

The Capital Area Transportation Authority (CATA) invites residents across the Capital region to participate in CATA’s Road Ahead, a comprehensive, systemwide analysis of its transit services aimed at improving efficiency, increasing ridership and reducing barriers to mobility. Public input will play a critical role in evaluating current routes, schedules and services to guide future transit decisions.
