As temperatures rise across the Capital region, the Capital Area Transportation Authority (CATA) is encouraging residents to stay safe by taking advantage of its air-conditioned buses to travel to local cooling centers.

The CATA Transportation Center (CTC), located at 420 S. Grand Ave. in downtown Lansing, open Monday - Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, also serves as a cooling center during its regular operating hours, providing a cool, indoor space for community members seeking relief from extreme temperatures. In observance of Independence Day, the Capital Area Transportation Authority will be closed Saturday, July 4. CATA routes and services will resume their regular weekend schedules on Sunday, July 5.

Residents are encouraged to check for the latest Code Red extreme heat activations and view a current list of cooling center locations by visiting the City of Lansing's cooling center webpage. Community members can also use CATA's online Trip Planner to find the best route to their nearest cooling center.

Staying cool and hydrated is one of the best ways to prevent heat-related illness. CATA is proud to help connect the community to safe, accessible places during periods of extreme heat.
