Booking your trip is better with CATA Rydz

  • Download the CATA Rydz app, available in the Apple App Store and Google Play.
    • NEW: CATA Rydz is now integrated in Transit app! Download Transit app in the Google Play or Apple Store.

  • Book your ride on your smartphone by indicating your pickup and drop-off addresses
  • Indicate the number of passengers riding with you
  • Get picked up at the designated location within one of the established Rydz zones
  • Connect with and transfer to the nearest participating transit service provider, or continue to your destination within that zone

Upon booking your trip, you will receive an estimated vehicle-arrival time and the exact location where the driver will pick you up. The arrival time will update as the vehicle makes its way to you. When your driver arrives, board the vehicle, pay your fare or present your transfer slip as payment. There may be other passengers on board, requiring a few additional stops, but your trip is always tracked in real-time so you will know exactly when you will reach your destination. Frequently Asked Questions

CATA Rydz Late-Night Service

  • What is CATA Rydz Late-Night?
    • It is a new service designed to connect Lansing residents to late-night opportunities in Delta Township when other transit services are not available.
  • When is CATA Rydz Late-Night Service available?
    • Beginning Aug. 18,2025, CATA Rydz will offer late-night trips between the new Lansing Late-Night zone and the Delta Township zone. Service is available 8 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. seven days a week as well as 5:30 a.m. to      9 a.m. Saturday and Sunday.
  • Where can travel on Late-Night?
    • Trips must occur between the new Lansing Late-Night zone and the newly expanded Delta Township zone (see maps for service areas). Travel within a zone is not permitted on Late-Night service. In other words, you cannot be picked up at a Delta Township location and taken to a location in that same zone.
    • Note: The new Lansing Late-Night zone and the newly expanded Lansing On-Demand zone are not the same zones. The Late-Night zone extends further south of Mt. Hope Highway to I-96 and further east of Pennsylvania to I-127 (between Mt. Hope and I96).
  • How much does a ride cost?
    • Rides are always $1.25 per one-way trip.
  • How do a reserve my rides?
    • All rides must be prebooked at least two hours prior to your desired pickup/arrival time. You can book up to three days in advance.
    • If you’re booking rides to and from work (i.e., third shift), round-trip bookings would only apply to the weekends when early morning trips are also available for your return home.

Prebooking CATA Rydz

  • What rides require prebooking?
    • Beginning Aug. 18, 2025, all trips on CATA Rydz Late-Night and between the Capital Region International Airport and MSU will need to be prebooked in the app. NOTE: Transit app users cannot prebook rides in Transit. All prebooking for airport/MSU and late-night service must occur in the CATA Rydz app.
  • How far in advance must I prebook?
    • All rides on Late-Night and between the Capital Region International Airport and MSU must be prebooked in the app at least two hours prior to your desired pickup/arrival time. Rides may be booked up to three days in advance.
  • How long does a customer have to cancel a prebooked ride?
    • At this time, there is no deadline for cancelling a prebooked ride.
  • How many minutes past the prebooked pickup time will drivers wait for passengers?
    • Drivers will only wait two minutes past the pickup window. You have the ability to communicate with your driver by means of text to notify them of any delays. If they are able to accommodate a change in to your pickup time, they will let you know. Otherwise, you may need to reschedule.
  • When will I be charged for my prebooked ride?
    • Fares are charged when you are actually picked up as riders may wish to change/cancel their booking ahead of the trip, or want to change the original selected payment method prior to the ride departing.
  • Can someone prebook my rides for me?
    • While individuals (i.e. family members or caregivers) can book trips for others, we strongly encourage all riders to book their own trips. Doing so will allow riders to receive direct updates when the vehicle is on the way to pick them up, monitor their upcoming scheduled trips, and cancel/ make adjustments to their trips.

Examples of how to use CATA Rydz On-Demand and CATA Rydz Late-Night service

  • I work in the Delta Township zone Monday-Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
    • If you reside in the zone, you can book on-demand rides the same day to and from work. CATA Rydz On-Demand will pickup at your residence and transport you to work. The same applies in reverse for the trip home.
    • If you reside outside the zone, you must catch Route 3 or 12 at the CTC or anywhere along these routes then book a ride with CATA Rydz On-Demand at Walmart (Route 3) or LCC West (Route 12). The same applies in reverse for the trip home.
  • I work in Delta Township zone Saturday & Sunday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
    • If you live in the zone, there is no option for getting to work by 8 a.m. on CATA Rydz since the only service during this time is late-night and it does not allow for travel within the zone. CATA Rydz On-Demand service doesn’t start until 9 a.m. EATRAN operates on Saturdays (no Sundays) 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. so this is not an option. However, you can book a same-day ride home since on-demand service operates until 8 p.m. and allows for trips within the same zone.
    • If you live in the Lansing zone, you can prebook a ride to work on late-night since service starts at 5:30 a.m. To return home, you would need to book a ride at the end of your shift with on-demand service, take CATA Rydz to a business along Marketplace or LCC West to catch Route 3 or 12 respectively, ride to the CTC to make connections to other routes if you don’t live along Route 3 or 12.
    • If you live outside these zones, your best option to get to work is carpooling, Uber or Lyft. To return home, you could take CATA Rydz On-Demand to a business along Marketplace or LCC West to connect to Route 3 or 12 respectively, and travel to the CTC if you don’t live along either route to transfer to another route that travels near your residence.
  • I work in Delta Township zone Monday-Friday 2:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.
    • If you live in the zone, you can take CATA Rydz On-Demand to work but there is no service available within the zone after 8 p.m.
    • If you live in the Lansing zone, you would need to take Route 3 to a business along Marketplace or Route 12 to LCC West and book a trip on CATA Rydz from either location to get to work. CATA Rydz Late-Night is available for your return trip to Lansing as long as you prebook the ride by 8:30 p.m.
    • If you live outside these zones, you need to take Route 3 or 12 into the Delta Township zone and transfer to CATA Rydz On-Demand to get to work. For your trip home on Thursdays and Fridays, you could use CATA Rydz Late-Night to connect with Route 1 at the CTC if you live along the route. Monday-Wednesday, the last departure from the CTC on Route 1 is at 10:20 p.m. so this would not be an option on these days.
  • I work in Delta Township zone Saturday & Sunday 2:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

  • I work in the Delta Township zone Monday-Friday 10 p.m. to 6:30 a.m.
    • If you live in the township, CATA Rydz is not available to get to work at this hour as on-demand ends at 8 p.m. and Late-Night doesn’t travel within the same zone. However, you can use CATA Rydz to get home since the On-Demand segment starts at 5:30 a.m. and allows for travel within the zone.
    • If you live in the Lansing zone, you can prebook a ride on Late-Night throughout the week. Trips home in the morning would require booking the On-Demand service at the end of your shift to take CATA Rydz to a business along Marketplace or LCC West to connect with Route 3 or 12 respectively. Ride either route to the CTC and transfer to the route that will take you home if you don’t live along Route 3 or 12.
    • If you live outside these zones, you could catch a fixed route to the CTC and connect with CATA Rydz Late-Night (prebook the trip at least two hours prior to the time you need to arrive at work) ) for travel to your job. For your trip home, you would do the reverse. This trip would also need to be prebooked when you book the first trip.
  • I work in Delta Township zone Saturday & Sunday 10 p.m. to 6:30 a.m.
    • If you live in the zone, your best options to get to/from work are carpooling, Uber or Lyft as there are no CATA or EATRAN services available. Monday morning, CATA Rydz On-Demand would be available for your ride home.
