MSU Pass Refund Request

 

Thinking you want to return your semester bus pass? 

Michigan State University and CATA have amended their contract for the 2018-’19 academic year to make on-campus bus service free to all students, staff and faculty. Free service will go into effect Aug. 27, when fall semester classes commence. Free fares will only cover on-campus weekday service on Routes 30, 31, 32, 33, 38 and 39 and weekend service on Routes 34, 35 and 36.

Routes 20, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26 (off-campus routes), Lot Link and Night Owl are NOT included in the free-fare service. Students will be required to pay the student fare of 60 cents per ride or use a bus pass for fare payment on these routes and services.

If you have already purchased a semester pass you may want to retain it as it provides unlimited rides on Lot Link, Night Owl and all CATA off-campus routes. The $50 price equates to $2.27/ week (22 weeks) and pays for itself after just 84 rides. The assurance of having unlimited access to these services is a worthwhile investment. Refund requests must be submitted by Sept. 14, 2018.

1.     How do I request a refund?

Please note that Routes 20, 22, 23, 24, 25 26, Lot Link and Night Owl are NOT included in MSU’s fare-free service. Remember, your semester and 31-day student pass will still work on these and all other CATA routes. You may submit your request for a refund by following the instructions for one of the convenient options noted below:

If purchased online:

Complete and submit this online form. Your credit card will be refunded within 48 hours if submitted on a weekday. Weekend requests will be processed the following Monday.  

If purchased at CATA or a vendor location you must return the pass by mail or in person:

2.     What will I need to submit or bring with me to request a refund?

If purchased online, please complete this form to request a refund. Refunds will be processed within 48 hours.

If you purchased your pass at one of our many points of purchase throughout the region, please bring the pass to one of the CATA locations listed above. If you used a credit card to purchase your pass, whether online or in person, please present that card as well.

 

3.     How long will it take for me to receive my refund?

Online refunds will be processed within 48 hours. In the majority of cases, refunds will be processed immediately on a first-come, first-served basis. Refunds requested by mail may take up to two weeks.
