CATA’s Listening Bus returns for 2026

Tuesday, January 13, 2026

Categories: General

Since launching in 2023, the Capital Area Transportation Authority’s Listening Bus program has given riders a convenient, real-time way to share feedback while they travel. Each month, CATA representatives board fixed-route buses to engage with riders and document their experiences.

Now entering its fourth year, the initiative returns Thursday, Jan. 15, on several CATA bus routes. Sessions will take place on the third Thursday of each month. The full Listening Bus schedule is available at the Listening Bus webpage

Rider feedback continues to guide CATA’s planning and service decisions, influencing route updates, service enhancements and improvements to rider tools and communication. Since the program launched, 34 sessions across 27 routes have gathered more than 600 rider responses. The launch of CATA’s Language Line translation service and year-round schedule changes on Routes 20, 23, 24 and 25 were the result of rider input obtained through the Listening Bus program.

Customers who cannot attend an onboard session, including those using CATA’s paratransit services, are encouraged to share their input online at the Feedback webpage, by phone at 517-394-1000 or in person by visiting the information booth at the CATA Transportation Center in downtown Lansing or the Capital Area Multimodal Gateway in East Lansing.
