The Capital Area Transportation Authority will bring a vibrant form of art to the region with “Art in Motion,” in collaboration with the Arts Council of Greater Lansing. Five articulated 60-foot buses will provide the landscape for regional artists to showcase their talents.
“CATA has long partnered with the Arts Council in an effort to providing enriching arts and cultural experience on behalf of our community,” said CATA Chief Executive Officer Bradley T. Funkhouser. “Our buses are a unique backdrop for artists, giving our community greater exposure to a diverse array of art. We are thrilled to be able to dedicate a portion of our fleet to this initiative.”
Five area artists are showcased on CATA’s vehicles. Their art will later be placed in bus shelters throughout CATA’s service area. Artists Elyse Gambino, Daniel J. Hogan, Steph Joy Hogan, Lucy Synk and Jennifer Taggart Wilson are featured.
"The Arts Council of Greater Lansing is proud to partner with community pillars like CATA to promote our local artists. Seeing the artist's works highlighted on such a large scale with so much visibility, makes the arts available to all and raises awareness of the breadth of creative talent we have in Greater Lansing," said Arts Council of Greater Lansing Executive Director Meghan Martin.
The “Art in Motion” launch coincides with CATA’s annual shuttle service to the East Lansing Art Festival and MSU’s Arts & Crafts Show. This year’s events take place May 18 and 19. Shuttle buses will feature “Art in Motion” artists. Attendees can park for free at MSU’s Commuter Lot 89 on the corner of Mt. Hope Road and Farm Lane. Buses will run approximately every 10-15 minutes between Lot 89 and Grand River Avenue. Round-trip fare is 50 cents and children under 42 inches ride free with an adult. CATA is a proud sponsor of these events in collaboration with the East Lansing Art Festival and Michigan State University Activities Board.
