Lansing, Mich. — In honor of the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks and the 2,996 lives that were lost that day, the Capital Area Transportation Authority will participate in the national 9/11 Moment of Remembrance initiative.

"At 1 p.m. EDT Sunday, Sept. 11, 2011, CATA will cease all regular activities, and all bus operators will pull their vehicles to the side of the road, come to a complete stop, and honk their horns for one minute to honor those for whom our nation mourns," said Sandy Draggoo, CATA CEO/Executive Director. "We will reflect on the lives that were lost and those who were affected by the tragedies of that fateful day."

According to Senate Resolution 237, the initiative recognizes the victims of the 9/11 attacks — including first responders and survivors — and expresses deep condolences for the lives lost at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and in Shanksville, Penn.

CATA will join other public transportation agencies nationwide, state and local governments, media, houses of worship, military and veteran organizations, fire and police departments, sports teams, businesses and individuals in observing the national 9/11 Moment of Remembrance at the same time across the country (1 p.m. EDT, noon CDT, 11 a.m. MDT, and 10 a.m. PDT).
