CATA to implement winter break service changes
Lansing, MI — As MSU students head into finals week, CATA prepares to implement its winter break schedule on a number of routes beginning Monday, Dec. 17. Spartan Service routes operating on MSU’s campus will change as follows:
Route 32 Commuter Lot/Auditorium/Clinical Center: The fare-free route will operate weekdays from 7 a.m. until 7:25 p.m. at a reduced frequency during the break. Buses will depart the MSU-CATA Transportation Center at Ramp 1 every 30 minutes, traveling on Farm Lane and Service Road, with service to the Auditorium, Clinical Center and Commuter Lot 89.
Weekday MSU Campus Service: The following routes will end service for winter break as follows:
Route 33 – at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14
Route 38 – at 10:45 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14
Routes 30, 31 and 39 – by 2:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 15
Night Owl: Curb-to-curb campus service will operate as usual until 9 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 16.
Weekend MSU Campus Service: Routes 34, 35, 36 and Lot Link will operate through 2 a.m. Monday, Dec. 17.
In addition to most MSU campus routes concluding for winter break, Spartan Service levels provided on Routes 1, 20, 23, 25, 26 and Entertainment Express will end, and reduced service levels will be in place as described below:
Route 1 Downtown Lansing /Meridian Mall: During the break, Friday and Saturday late-night Spartan Service will not operate. Service ends at 11:35 p.m. with the last bus departing Meridian Mall at 11 p.m. en route to the CATA Transportation Center. Saturday buses will depart every 10 to 15 minutes most of the day. Sunday service will continue to operate at a 15-minute frequency all day.
Route 20 South Harrison/Jolly/Dunckel: Monday through Thursday service will operate at a reduced frequency of every 35 to 45 minutes most of the day. Route 20 will travel into Spartan Village and the MSU/CTC at Ramp 1 while continuing to serve the adjacent Shaw Lane shelters.
Route 22 MSU/Haslett/Okemos: Buses will travel into the MSU/CTC at Ramp 1 while continuing to serve the Shaw and Farm boarding area.
Route 23 MSU/Okemos/Haslett: Weekdays between 2 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., buses will run at a reduced frequency of every 35 to 45 minutes. Buses will travel into the MSU/CTC at Ramp 1 while continuing to serve the Shaw and Farm boarding area.
Route 25 North Harrison: Weekday buses will operate every 60 minutes during the day rather than every 30 minutes. Evening and weekend service will remain the same.
Route 26 Abbot/Chandler: Weekday buses will operate every 45 minutes rather than every 6 to 10 minutes and conclude at the MSU/CTC at Ramp 1 at 7:15 p.m. There will be no Thursday, Friday or Saturday late-night service to downtown East Lansing. Saturday and Sunday service will continue to operate every 40 minutes, with Saturday trips ending at 7:10 p.m.
Entertainment Express: On Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights, Entertainment Express will operate less frequently – every 30 minutes rather than every 15 minutes during the break. One trolley will travel between downtown Lansing and downtown East Lansing from 7:30 p.m. until 3 a.m.
Winter break also impacts the following routes:
Route 12 W. Michigan/Waverly/LCC West: Buses will continue to follow the LCC West service schedule through Friday, Dec 14. On Monday, Dec. 17, Route 12 will follow the breaks and holiday schedule with service every 45 minutes most of the day and evening. A shuttle bus will be available to transport passengers from Ollie’s to LCC West throughout the day. Starting Dec. 18, there will be no service to LCC West on Route 12 as buses will not travel west of Waverly Road. Service to LCC West resumes Jan. 7, 2019.
Route 24 East Lansing/E. Lake Lansing Road: Monday to Friday buses will depart every 30 minutes rather than every 35 minutes most of the day during the break. Weekend trips will continue every 60 minutes.
Spartan Service Resumes Monday, Jan. 7, 2019. Lot Link will resume campus service at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 6, and run until 2 a.m. Monday morning, Jan. 7, when Night Owl returns to service. Spartan Service provided on Routes 1, 20, 23, 25, 26, 30 – 33, 38 and 39 will resume Monday, Jan. 7.
