CATA service changes effective Aug. 19

As summer break draws to a close, the Capital Area Transportation Authority (CATA) is preparing to implement service changes to its fixed-route service. The changes, effective Monday, Aug. 19, 2024, impact ten routes as outlined below. Spartan Service will also resume on all Michigan State University campus services and select off-campus routes.
Effective Aug. 19, the following changes will be implemented:
- Route 6 Cedar/Jolly Connection: Buses will travel to the Lansing School District’s Newcomer Center on Jolly & Ora three times each morning and afternoon. Three new early morning trips have been added and will only travel between the Jolly Cedar Plaza and the center. No other bus stops will be served on these trips. In the morning, buses will arrive at the Jolly Cedar Plaza 8 minutes later. The last three morning trips will arrive at the plaza 4 minutes later. All trips will continue to connect with Route 5. Beginning at 12:37 p.m., buses will depart every 20 minutes rather than every 15 minutes until the end of service. This will result in three fewer afternoon trips each day.
- Route 7 Aurelius/Miller: Monday-Saturday, northbound buses headed to the CTC will depart stops between Provincial House & Aurelius and the CTC approximately 2-4 minutes earlier.
- Route 8 Pennsylvania/Holt: Monday-Sunday, the five northbound evening trips previously ending at the South Pennsylvania Meijer. will now continue to the CTC. On these trips buses will depart Meijer approximately 5 minutes later.
- Route 16 Old Town/W. Lake Lansing/ Eastwood: Monday-Friday, an added trip will depart the CTC at 11:40 a.m. Saturday, an added trip will depart the CTC at 1 p.m. Weekdays, buses headed to CTC will depart all stops between High Street & Cesar Chavez and the CTC approximately 3 to 4 minutes earlier until 8:53 p.m. Weekend buses headed to the CTC will depart all stops between High Street & Cesar Chavez and the CTC approximately 2 minutes earlier.
- Route 18 Capital City Crosstown: Buses headed to MSU will depart McLaren Greater Lansing Hospital approximately 4 minutes earlier.
- Route 20 South Harrison/Jolly/Dunckel: Buses will no longer travel into the Multimodal Gateway on southbound trips. Customers should use the bus stop adjacent to the facility on Harrison Road on these trips. All northbound trips headed to campus will continue to serve the Multimodal Gateway. During MSU breaks, weekend buses will depart some stops up to 5 minutes earlier.
- Route 23 MSU/Okemos/Haslett: Monday-Friday, afternoon and early evening service will operate according to the Spartan Service schedule year-round. Buses will depart every 25 minutes between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. Monday-Saturday, all westbound trips headed to MSU will depart 5 minutes earlier.
- Route 24 East Lansing/East Lake Lansing Road: Monday-Friday, service will operate according to the Spartan Service schedule year-round. Buses will run every 35 minutes from start of service until 6:40 p.m. All weekday northbound trips to Lake Lansing Meijer will depart 5 minutes earlier until 5:45 p.m. Weekday southbound trips to MSU after 7:10 a.m. will depart 10 minutes earlier until 7 p.m.
- Route 25 North Harrison: Monday-Friday, service will operate according to the Spartan Service schedule year-round. Buses will depart every 30 minutes from start of service until 7:09 p.m.
- Route 26 Abbot/Chandler: Monday-Friday during Spartan Service periods, two new trips departing The Landings Apartments have been added. Buses will depart at 6:24 p.m. and 11:24 p.m. and travel to Ramp 1.
Weekday service to the three Lansing School District high schools will resume the week of Aug. 19.
- Everett High School: Route 5 South Cedar/Edgewood will continue travel to the high school with four inbound trips and four outbound trips to Stabler St. each morning and afternoon.
- Sexton High School: Route 11 Waverly/Colonial Village and Route 12 West Michigan/Waverly/LCC West will provide access to the high school.
- Eastern High School: Route 13 Groesbeck Area will serve the high school at stops located on Saginaw Highway and Grand River.
Prior to the Aug. 19 implementation, customers may obtain new schedules online at cata.org, on buses, at CATA’s various facilities and at schedule racks throughout CATA’s service area. Download the Transit app for real-time information and bus tracking.
