The Capital Area Transportation Authority (CATA) invites residents across the Capital region to participate in CATA’s Road Ahead, a comprehensive, systemwide analysis of its transit services aimed at improving efficiency, increasing ridership and reducing barriers to mobility. Public input will play a critical role in evaluating current routes, schedules and services to guide future transit decisions.
Both fixed-route and demand-response services will be examined to ensure transit meets the evolving needs of residents, employees, students and visitors. The review will also identify opportunities to strengthen coordination with regional partners and improve transportation options throughout the tri-county area.
“Public transit only succeeds when it reflects the people it serves,” said CATA Chief Executive Officer Bradley T. Funkhouser. “This review will help us better understand today’s mobility needs and identify where thoughtful, achievable improvements can make the biggest impact.”
The project is being conducted by AECOM, a national leader in transit analysis, and is funded through a state grant designated for transit planning initiatives. The last review of this scope was conducted in 2007.
As part of CATA’s Road Ahead, pop-up events will be held for riders and community members to meet with staff, ask questions and share feedback.
Upcoming Pop-Up Events:
Monday, Jan. 26, 2026 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. CATA Transportation Center 420 S. Grand Ave., Lansing
Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2026 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. MSU-CATA Transportation Center (Ramp 1) 592 N. Shaw Lane, East Lansing
Attendees may complete a short survey at the pop-up events or online. Feedback collected will help guide future transit decisions. The online survey will remain open through Feb. 20. More information is available at the CATA's Road Ahead webpage.
