CATA extends service reductions into March

Friday, January 14, 2022

Categories: General

In response to the Michigan Department of Health & Human Services’ report of the exponential spread of the COVID-19 omicron variant and an anticipated surge in late January/early February, coupled with Michigan State University’s decision to hold online classroom instruction through Jan. 30 and an emerging bus driver shortage, CATA will extend its winter break service reductions and adjust regular campus service levels. These changes will affect seven Lansing-based routes, most MSU campus routes and several off-campus routes.

Weekday service reductions implemented in late December on Routes 1, 3, 5, 8, 9 and 18 will continue through March 6. Visit cata.org for routing details that correspond with these service changes.

Route 12 service to LCC West will continue to follow the winter break schedule until Friday, Feb. 4. A shuttle will transport passengers from Ollie’s to the west campus until the route resumes LCC’s regular academic schedule Feb. 7.

Several off-campus routes that travel to MSU will also continue service reductions through Feb. 6. Route 20 will continue to travel into Spartan Village, and Routes 23 and 24 will continue to operate winter break schedules over the next three weeks.

Route 26 will operate much less frequently through March 6. Monday through Friday, buses will run every 23 minutes during the day and early evening; every 45 minutes between 7:15 p.m. and 11:15 p.m. Regular weekend service levels are operating on Route 26; there will be no late-night service through at least March 6.

Service on MSU’s campus is operating 24/7 with reductions in place until further notice. Beginning Jan. 17, all six weekday routes (Routes 30, 31, 32, 33, 38 and 39) will operate regular service hours but less often. Buses will run every 30 minutes (every 20 minutes on Route 39). Lot Link and Night Owl will be available for late-night and early morning curb-to-curb service 7 days a week upon request. Call 517-432-8888 to schedule a ride. Weekend service will resume as scheduled on Routes 34, 35 and 36.

Customers should be aware that CATA’s real-time departure data on Transit app, CATAnow and CATA’s website is currently unreliable as a result of service reductions. Riders are encouraged to call CATA’s Customer Experience Representatives at 517-394-1000, Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; email info@cata.org or use the online chat at cata.org for assistance
