At the Dec. 10 Special Board Meeting, the Board unanimously approved the ratification and execution of the three-year Labor Agreement between the Capital Area Transportation Authority and Amalgamated Transit Union Local No. 1039, which represents CATA’s bus operators, mechanics and utilities employees. The agreement is effective Dec. 10, 2025 through Nov. 30, 2028.
“This is the first time since 1987 that CATA and ATU have executed a new labor agreement this quickly and close to the expiration date," said Bradley T. Funkhouser, CATA’s chief executive officer. “This milestone reflects the strong partnership we’ve built and our shared commitment to providing stability for our workforce and reliability for those we serve. I’m grateful to everyone at the bargaining table who helped make this possible.”
"A strong partnership with our employee union has always been essential for CATA, our riders and the community," said Nathan Triplett, chairperson of the CATA Board of Directors. "This bargaining process led to a fair and equitable agreement for all parties and our board is grateful to both ATU Local 1039 and the CATA administration for the tireless effort that led to this success."
“ATU members appreciate the commitment of CATA management to bargaining in good faith with our negotiating team,” said ATU Local 1039 President Steve Soliz. “We are pleased with the outcome of the negotiations and glad to have a new contract that supports our members’ needs and ensures continued excellence in the transportation services we provide to the Greater Lansing region.”
