CATA advises riders to prepare for possible snow route detours

Wednesday, February 12, 2025

Categories: General

In the event of heavy snow or ice due to winter storm conditions this afternoon through Thursday, the Capital Area Transportation Authority will implement snow route detours as needed.

Detours are announced as Rider Alerts which are published on CATA’s website and sent to Rider Alert subscribers. Snow detours are activated on a route-by-route basis, and detours may change as conditions improve.

Routes 2, 3, 5, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 13, 22, 23, 24 and 26 have established snow detours that may be activated with minimal notice when secondary roads become impassable. When in effect, buses will display "On Snow Detour" and will bypass regular bus stops located on affected roads.

If a stop is temporarily out of service due to a snow detour, riders can board at the nearest designated snow bus stop location which are listed on CATA’s website and in print schedules. For more information, visit Snow Detours.

Before routes resume normal routing, riders will receive a two-hour notice via Rider Alerts. Riders are encouraged to monitor weather updates on local TV and radio stations, subscribe to Rider Alerts at the Rider Alerts Webpage and check for detour updates in the Transit app.
