Food for Thought --Transportation Unions devise plan to help feed hungry April 23rd(Lansing, MI) -- In tough times, area unions are stepping up to show their support for their community and help the Greater Lansing Food Bank feed those in need.
Employees of two of mid-Michigan's major transportation authorities announced that they will be working with the Greater Lansing Food Bank to help them stock their shelves. The union employees for the Capital Area Transportation Authority (CATA) in Ingham County and Eaton County Transportation Authority (EATRAN) are teaming up for the third year with Kroger stores on Marsh Road, Lake Lansing Road and Saginaw Highway to help those in need. "Kroger has been an excellent partner in the Feeding America Program and has been tremendous in its effort to help stock the food bank,' said Katie Kelley, treasurer with CATA's Employee Union. 'The whole community has been affected by this current economic situation and our union locals felt that a food drive still is a good way to help our friends and neighbors,' she continued.
Kelley, along with drivers, maintenance workers and mechanics will be on site Saturday, April 23 from 8:00a.m.— 2:00p.m. at the above-mentioned Kroger locations to "stuff their buses" in the collection effort. All nonperishable food donations are gratefully accepted. Kroger will also be selling bags of items needed by the Food Bank during the collection effort.
