East Lansing, Mich. — At long last, Amtrak announced its plan to move operations for the East Lansing Amtrak Station into the newly-constructed Capital Area Multimodal Gateway, Operated by CATA. The move will take place Monday, Jan. 25, following the 8:45 a.m. departure of the Blue Water (No. 365) to Chicago, Ill. The old station will then close, and Amtrak employees will move to the Gateway. Customers will begin boarding on the platform at the Gateway for the 8:54 p.m. departure of the Blue Water (No. 364) bound for Port Huron, Mich.

Customers will enjoy 24/7 access to the Gateway's three vestibules. Amtrak personnel will be available Monday through Sunday, 7 a.m. — 2:30 p.m. A CATA representative will continue to be stationed at the Gateway, providing information and selling CATA passes, and Greyhound and Indian Trails tickets Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. — 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. — 6 p.m.

"We are so pleased to finally have Amtrak move into our new state-of-the-art facility," said Sandy Draggoo, CATA CEO/Executive Director. "The Gateway has been ready and waiting for Amtrak's occupancy, which will complement intercity bus operations, provided by MegaBus, Greyhound and Indian Trails, along with taxi service. Amtrak's move will allow us to complete the demolition of the old station and construction of the parking lot."

Draggoo also reported that CATA's Route 20 (year-round) and Route 39 (during MSU's fall and spring semesters) will continue to serve the Gateway at the Harrison Road bus stops, just south of Trowbridge Road.
