Event Detours

The 2008 East Lansing Art Festival will be held on May 17 & 18. Abbot and MAC Streets will be closed for both days requiring Routes 24 and 26 to detour. If you wish to speak with a Customer Service Representative, please call 394-1000.

The 2008 Capitol Bankcorp 5K for JA will be held on Saturday, May 18 in downtown Lansing. Several CATA routes will be detoured for most of the service day due to partial closures of Allegan and Capitol Streets. For specific information, call 394-1000 to speak with a Customer Service Representative.

The 2008 Capitol Area Stand Down for Homeless Veterans will be held on Wednesday, May 21, 2008. The event will be held at the Viet Nam Veterans Memorial and the north lane of Allegan will be closed. No CATA route detours are anticipated. For specific information, call 394-1000 to speak with a Customer Service Representative.

The annual Memorial Day Parade will be held on Saturday, May 24, 2008 in downtown Lansing. The event is scheduled to begin around 10:00 am and continue for several hours. Portions of Allegan Street and Capitol Avenue will be closed which requires several CATA routes to detour. For specific information, call 394-1000 to speak with a Customer Service Representative

Upcoming Construction Notices

Around May 19, 2008, construction work begins in Spartan Village requiring a detour of Route 20 buses. During this construction, a courtesy shuttle will be provided within Spartan Village.

This summer, Haslett Road at Okemos Road will be widened. There might be possible delays to Route 22 buses, but no detour is expected.

By July, the intersection of Grand and Michigan should be reopened. When that happens, the intersection of Larch and Shiawassee will be closed resulting in new detours to Route 1 and Route 8.

MDOT will be doing work on the four bridges on M-99 (MLK) between St Joseph Street and Moores River Drive. This work will take place from June to November and will require lane closures as well as lane shifts. This will impact Route 9 buses.

Detours & Service Changes

Please note: Grand Avenue closed on March 24, 2008 for CSO construction. This work is expected to continue through the summer.

Downtown Courtesy Route
Grand Avenue is closed for CSO construction which will continue through the summer. To help CATA customers access downtown Lansing destinations, a Courtesy Route operates during CATA service hours seven days each week. The bus will depart the CTC every 15 minutes as follows:

Monday - Friday
6:00 - 11:15 AM
12:00 - 7:15 PM
8:00 - 10:15 PM

Saturday
8:30 AM - 1:15 PM
2:00 - 10:00 PM

Sunday
9:30 AM - 1:15 PM
2:00 - 6:00 PM

The buses will travel:

West from the CTC on Kalamazoo to Walnut.
Right (north) on Walnut to Saginaw.
Right (east) on Saginaw to Capitol.
Right (south) on Capitol to Lenawee.
Left (east) on Lenawee to the CTC.

Route 5 South Cedar – Edgewood
This route is detoured as follows:

Capitol Loop trips:

Westbound from the CTC on Kalamazoo to Walnut.

Route 7 Aurelius
Beginning May 5, 2008, Collins Road between Jolly and Dunckel will be resurfaced. At some point in the project, the bus stop in front of the Post Office will be closed. At that time, customers must board Route 7 buses at the bus stop on Collins, south of Dunckel.

Route 8 Pennsylvania – Holt
There are two detours in effect on this route.

Buses traveling from the CTC:

Eastbound on Kalamazoo to Larch.
Left (north) on Larch to Shiawassee.
Right (east) on Shiawassee and resume regular route.

Buses traveling toward the CTC: no detour

Effective May 5, Pennsylvania Avenue between Mt. Hope and Health Care Dr. is closed for construction. This closure is expected to continue for about two weeks. The route is detoured as follows:

Buses traveling from the CTC will travel:
Southbound on Pennsylvania to Mt. Hope.
Left (east) on Mt. Hope to Aurelius.
Right (south) on Aurelius to Cavanaugh.
Right (west) on Cavanaugh to Pennsylvania.
Left (south) on Pennsylvania and resume route.

Buses traveling toward the CTC will travel:
North bound on Pennsylvania to Cavanaugh.
Right (east) on Cavanaugh to Aurelius.
Left (north) on Aurelius to Mt. Hope.
Left (west) on Mt. Hope to Pennsylvania.
Right (north) on Pennsylvania and resume route.

During the construction, bus stops on Pennsylvania between Mt. Hope and Health Care Drive will be closed. Bus stops on Pennsylvania between Health Care Drive and Cavanaugh will be served with a courtesy shuttle bus enabling passengers to transfer to Route 8 buses at Pennsylvania and Cavanaugh.

Route 9 South Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. – Miller

Route 10 North Lansing – Turner
Effective April 14, 2008

Grand Avenue and Larch Street are closed for CSO construction. Also, East Street between Bates and Sheridan is under construction beginning March 31. All work is expected to continue through the summer. This route is detoured as follows:

Buses traveling from the CTC:

Eastbound on Kalamazoo to Larch.
Left (north) on Larch to Shiawassee.
Right (east) on Shiawassee to Pennsylvania.
Left (north) on Pennsylvania to Oakland Street.
Left (west) on Oakland to Ballard Street.
Right (north) on Ballard to Grand River.
Right (east) on Grand River. Temporary bus stops will be placed on Ballard near Porter Street.
In addition, East Street will remain open to traffic, however there will be times when the bus stops between Bates and Sheridan will be closed. Every attempt will be made to post notice of changes to these bus stops.

Westbound on Grand River to Ballard
Left (south) on Ballard to Oakland
Right (west) on Oakland and resume regular route

Route 11 Waverly – Colonial Village

Buses traveling toward the CTC: - no detour

On May 5, 2008, Martin Luther King Blvd from Marquette Street south to the Grand River will be closed. Route 14 buses will travel east and west on Grand River Avenue and will not travel on Martin Luther King Blvd.

Route 16 W. Lake Lansing Road – Eastwood Towne Center
Effective April 14, 2008

Route 20 South Harrison - Jolly - Dunckel

Beginning May 5, 2008, Collins Road between Jolly and Dunckel will be resurfaced. At some point in the project, the bus stop in front of the Post Office will be closed. At that time, customers must board Route 20 buses at the bus stop on Collins, south of Dunckel.

Route 26 Abbot – Chandler
Northbound Abbot Road is closed between Coleman and Lake Lansing Roads. This detour is expected to remain in effect through October 2008.

North on Abbot to Lake Lansing Road.
Left (west) on Lake Lansing to Coolidge Road.
Right (north) on Coolidge to Coleman Road.
Right (east) on Coleman to Crossing Place Apartments.

Buses traveling toward MSU will travel:

East on Coleman to Hunsaker Street.
Left (north/east) on Hunsaker to Chandler Road.
Right (south) on Chandler to The Landings Apartments.
South on Chandler/Abbot and resume regular route.

Route 46 Mason, Limited
This route is detoured as follows:

Buses traveling from the CTC (evening trip):

Westbound on Kalamazoo to Walnut.
Right (north) on Walnut to Shiawassee.
Right (east) on Shiawassee to Capitol.
Right (south) on Capitol and resume the regular route.

Buses traveling toward the CTC (morning trip):

Westbound on St Joseph to Washington.
Right (north) on Washington to Lenawee.
Right (east) at Lenawee into the CTC.
Exit westbound on Kalamazoo to Walnut.
