MSU Night Owl offers safe, convenient curb-to-curb student transportation for Michigan State University students across campus during late-night and early-morning hours when regular bus services are no longer operating

Night Owl provides on-demand late-night bus service when other CATA bus services are not running. Students can travel between any two locations on MSU campus. Rides are limited to campus only.
Service Details
Call 517.432.8888 (or 2.8888 from any campus phone) when you are ready for a ride. A small bus will arrive within 20 minutes to take you to your campus destination. No advance reservations are accepted.
Hours of Service
- Monday through Friday: 2 AM until 7 AM
- Saturday & Sunday: 2 AM until 9 AM
Fares
Student fare is 60 cents with a valid student ID. The regular fare is $1.25. Student Semester passes, 31-Day passes and 10-Ride cards are also accepted for student transportation.
Spartan Service Dates
Night Owl is a part of Spartan Service. It operates only during MSU fall and spring semesters:
- Monday, Aug. 18 – Sunday, Dec. 14, 2025
- Monday, Jan. 12 – Sunday, May 3, 2026
(Campus routes and services do not operate the week of Spring Break except for Route 32)
Holiday Service
CATA does not operate on New Year's Day, Easter Sunday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day or Christmas Day unless noted as limited service.
