Art in Motion
What Is Art in Motion?
Art in Motion brings local art to public transit through CATA buses, shelters and transit buildings. These spaces become galleries that exhibit the work of local artists. The program makes art accessible to the community. You'll see original artwork when you commute to work, run errands or explore the area.
Where You'll See Art
On CATA Buses
Five CATA buses feature artwork from local artists. These fixed-route buses travel throughout the greater Lansing area. They bring art directly to the community. Each bus shows a different artist's work. Keep your eyes open when you're riding or waiting for the bus. You might see bright colors, creative designs or interesting images as Art in Motion buses roll by.
In Bus Shelters
CATA works with local artists to bring art to bus shelters. These displays brighten waiting areas. Some shelters feature art that reflects the neighborhood's character and history.
At CATA Facilities
Art also appears at CATA's transportation centers and buildings. When you visit the CATA Transportation Center in downtown Lansing or the Multimodal Gateway in East Lansing, look for artwork in these public spaces.
Featured Artists
Art in Motion features work from talented artists throughout the Capital City Region. The program launched in 2024 with five artists: Elyse Gambino, Daniel J. Hogan, Steph Joy Hogan, Lucy Synk and Jennifer Taggart Wilson.
The program continues to grow and show new artists. Browse the gallery below to see artwork from current and past featured artists. Each piece tells a story about the creative community in greater Lansing.
Partnership with Arts Council of Greater Lansing
Art in Motion is a collaboration between CATA and the Arts Council of Greater Lansing. This partnership gives local artists a unique platform to share their work with thousands of people each day. The large-scale displays help raise awareness of creative talent in the region.
