February 9, 2002

It’s a small world. I say that today for two reasons. First we started working today. I was transporting staff, sponsors and spectators to the venue. My first trip was for staff working at the venue. My next trip was for a sponsor group. The sponsor turned out to be Kellogg employees from Battle Creek. Talk about coincidence. The second reason I say it’s a small world is because of my roommate. His name is Jimmy Johnson, from Woodland, CA. Last night he was calling some friends of his to update them on what was going on here. One of his friends asked where his roommate was from. He told him Michigan. His friend then asked where in Michigan. Jimmy told him Lansing. His friend then asked him my name and Jimmy told him. He then asked to talk to me. Turns out Jimmy’s friend was the man who trained me when I first hired in at CATA twenty two years ago. Like I said, it’s a small world.

Another incident today brought home the fact that we are playing host to the world. We were having lunch in the staff break tent and someone walked in the door and asked, “Does anyone here speak German?” Someone got up and said yes and went to help out. It really brought home the international flavor of the Olympics.

Til tomorrow, Len
