Greetings
from the High Country,
Yesterday
was another training day for us. I finally learned where I will be working.
I am going to be driving the spectators from the parking lots to the Soldier
Hollow venue. Soldier Hollow is home to the biathlon, cross country and
Nordic combined events. I can't tell you how beautiful it is there. It
is a valley surrounded by the Wasatch mountain range. Simply
gorgeous.
We also learned
about some of the security that is in place for the Olympics. Our buses
will be parked in a secure area and will be checked out by the secret
service and the FBI before we will be allowed to drive them. When
we are driving, helicopters will be flying overhead keeping track of the
movement of all of the buses. Hope I don't make any wrong turns!!
All the spectators will go through a 'mag and bag' before being allowed
to board the buses. They have to go through a security screening that
includes measures similar to airports. They have the x-ray machines and
all bags will be searched before they are allowed to board the buses.
Riding the bus is the only way people can get to the venue.
I also found
out our motel is home to the Jamaican bobsled team. When we got back to
our motel last night they were in the lobby selling t-shirts and autographing
them. I now have a t-shirt signed by all the members of the Jamaican bobsled
team. They are a very cool group of guys. Of course I hope
the USA takes home a lot of gold medals, but now I have a special interest
in the bobsled team from Jamaica!
The Olympics
hasn't even officially started yet, but I've already had a great time
and met a lot of wonderful people. Can't wait for the games to actually
start. We now have the next three days off. Time for a little exploring
and shopping. It is 15 degrees here right now. Going to get up to mid
20's today. Snow Friday. Another clear day today, beautiful
Bye for now,
Len

Can
you tell I'm out of the CATA service area?
