Paying Your Fare

There are several ways to pay your fare: cash, CATA tokens, or by using a CATA pass.

Cash
To pay your fare, place your U.S. coins or bill in the farebox when you board. Have your money in hand (U.S. coins only) and ID card ready (drivers are instructed to ask to see ID cards for discounted cash fares) to show the bus operator when you board.

Fareboxes accept $1, $5, and $10 bills, as well as all U.S. coins.

While drivers cannot make change, if you pay more than your fare, the farebox can issue a CATACash Card to pay for future CATA trips. Fareboxes issue a CATACash Card for the difference between what you owe and what you deposit in the farebox when you pay too much. CATACash Cards are good only on CATA fixed-route buses. The cards cannot be redeemed for cash.

CATA Tokens
As an alternative to cash, CATA sells tokens that are good for a one-way ride on any CATA fixed-route bus in Zone 1 or any Spec-Tran vehicle in both Zones 1 and 2. Fixed-route tokens will not be accepted in Zone 2.

Punch Cards
Purchase a convenient CATA punch card for Spec-Tran, Redi-Ride, and CATA Rural Service. Cards are punched for each one-way ride.

Bus Passes
Bus passes are another payment option for fixed-route service. CATA offers a variety of passes, including discount passes for students, senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and Medicare cardholders. View more information on passes, or buy a pass online now.
