Downtown Lansing Parking Incentive Announced
At a press conference held Tuesday, September 15, Mayor Virg Bernero announced the launching of a new “Green” Parking Plan for downtown Lansing as part of CATA’s Clean Commute Challenge Week. The City of Lansing, in partnership with CATA’s Clean Commute Options program, and the Greater Lansing Go Green Initiative, will now offer free vanpool parking and discounted carpool parking for all those carpools and vanpools that have registered with the Clean Commute Options Program.
In order to qualify, all individuals and their carpools/vanpools need to register with CATA’s Clean Commute Options Program at www.cata.org. Registered vanpools (MichiVan’s white commuter vans) will be able to park for free at all 10 hour metered locations in downtown Lansing. Carpools will receive discounted parking at all cityowned parking ramps and gated surface lots, and will be able to receive the discounted parking with an unique personalized card, as soon as they are in a confirmed carpool. The discounted cards for carpools will be produced and distributed through Lansing's Parking Dept, located at 219 N. Grand Avenue Lansing, MI 48933. To receive this card, all clean commuters must fill out a form which can be accessed at: www.lansingmi.gov/pnd/parking/vip_prox_card.jsp. Each member of the pool will need to complete a form and submit them jointly to the Clean Commute Options Office Attn Cathleen Edgerly.
This incentive is just another benefit of choosing a clean commute alternative, and we are happy to finally be able to offer this benefit to all of you! All carpoolers may begin filling out the required form immediately, and all vanpool contacts will be notified via email when the free parking goes into effect.
