Carpool/Vanpool

A free rider matching service is provided to those interested in forming car or vanpools. Register now or complete a Clean Commute Application (PDF) Completed applications may be faxed to 517.394.3733 or mail it to our office at 4615 Tranter St. Lansing, MI.

Carpool

A carpool typically consists of two to four people who share the ride.  Carpool participants decide on their own if they will all share in the driving, if there is a primary driver, their commuting schedule and route.  No costs are typically involved in carpooling, unless there is one primary driver.  Register Now!  Please note that your Clean Commute login is separate from the general CATA website login and requires a separate registration.

Vanpool

A vanpool is a group of seven to fifteen people who commute on a regular basis in a MichiVan.  All participants in the vanpool pay a monthly fee, except for the driver who normally rides for free.  The vanpool monthly fee is based on the number of riders and the one-way commuting mileage.  All vanpoolers share the cost of the fuel, and as a group they determine their normal daily schedule and route.  

Who Vanpools?

• People who have at least a 30 minute commute, or travel more than 10 miles one-way
• People with a fairly consistent schedule
• People who live near or along the route of at least five to fifteen other people who are willing to share the ride in the same vanpool

Already registered? If you already participate in the Clean Commute Options Program at least three times a week, you may be eligible to apply for our Emergency Ride Home Program. Read more about CATA's Emergency Ride Home Program.
