cleancommute@cata.orgCommuters traveling into, or within, the Greater Lansing Region will have an opportunity during CATA’s Clean Commute Challenge week to log-in every clean commute trip that they make and win fabulous prizes. The Challenge takes place September 14-18, and individuals can log every one-way trip that they take via bus, carpool, vanpool, bike, or on foot at cata.org. Free activities or promotions will highlight different modes of commuting each day and the more commutes a person logs, enters them for more chances to win fabulous prizes from BIGGBY COFFEE, MichiVan, Q’Doba Mexican Grill, Grand Ledge Cycling & Sports, and others!
Local colleges including MSU and Lansing Community College will compete against campuses across Michigan including Wayne State and Grand Valley University. Students, faculty, and staff from the colleges will compete against each other for a chance to win prizes such as a $100.00 gas card, free coffee from BIGGBY coffee, a bus pass, t-shirts, umbrellas and food from Q’Doba Mexican Grill.
Monday, Sept 14: Bicycling Day- “Pedal Pushers” bicycle commuting class at MSU Bikes located under Bessey Hall from 6:00-7:00pm.
- Bicycle commuting class at LCC’s main campus from 12:00 noon-1:00 p.m.
- Okemos High School students will hold a Bike to School Day in support of the Challenge Week.
Tuesday, Sept. 15: “Jump in the Pool!” and Carpool or Vanpool- Select parking meters will be designated for carpools and vanpool parking in downtown Lansing all week long! (Designated parking spaces will be in the 100 block of Washington, and 3 spaces in the 200 block of Allegan offering free parking to registered carpools & vanpools.
- “Jump in the Pool” ride matching event outside MSU International Center 11:00am-2:00pm.
- 2:00 p.m. press conference with Mayor Bernero and CATA Clean Commute, with a special announcement regarding carpool and vanpool parking in downtown Lansing!
Wednesday, Sept. 16th: Walking Day- Representative Joan Bauer will be leading a walk in downtown Lansing to highlight clean commuting. The walk will begin at 12:00 noon from the Capitol steps. Come join us!
Thursday, Sept. 17: Bring a Buddy, Ride the Bus Day- CATA encourages you to bring a buddy with you on the bus today to show them just how good public transportation can be! Use the CATA trip-planning tool to make bus trip planning easier.
- Clinton Transit & EATRAN are offering “Bring a Buddy, Ride Free” Day!
- Those who log the most bus rides will be entered for a chance to win a free bus pass!
Friday, Sept. 18: Anti-idling & Clean Commute Celebration!- Be Spartan Green! & Clean Commute Options are teaming up to encouraging all MSU faculty, staff, and students to reduce vehicle engine idling.
- Clean Commute Celebration event held at Tavern on the Square from 4:00-6:00 p.m. to meet other commuters, sign up, or relax with your rideshare, bus, or bike buddies, while enjoying free appetizers. Winners of the Challenge will be announced tonight!
